Whole Genome Sequencing
Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) is a genomics technique that systematically sequences the genomic DNA of an organism. Its principle is to randomly fragment genomic DNA and construct a sequencing library, then read huge numbers of short sequences through high-throughput sequencing platforms massively and in parallel, followed by bioinformatic alignment and assembly to reconstruct the complete genome. We could identify the genetic variants such as mutation sites, SNPs, insertions/deletions (InDels), and structural variations by WGS, making it a foundation for genetic disease research and gene function analysis.
